Last Night on Earth, The Zombie Game

    Rating: 7Reviewed By: J SHeezy11/13/2017
Summary ReviewIt is the Last Night on Earth, October 31st 2015 or 2016, I cannot really remember. My buddies are coming over for game night, and I want to try out Last Night on Earth with them. So, I put on the theme music that the game comes with and they all arrive, and we get down to it.
While it was fun, and I replayed it many times over the years, it certainly has some flaws.
Detailed ReviewSo let's get back to the story that intrigued you to my review in the first place: Myself, and two others are playing the game. One the zombies, myself the sheriff, and the third the drifter. We're in dire straits by this point, I lose the sheriff, the drifter goes down, and we're down to our last two survivors, if we lose another, we lose the game. To make matters worse, we're behind, zombies are growing in numbers, we are going to lose if things don't change.

I pull Johnny, the High School Quarterback, gets Blitz, which lets him not stop after a battle. Johnny then finds a chain-saw, bam, and the tables turn. Zombies don't stand a change as Johnny "I ain't going out like no chump," wins the game single handily, and the legend of Johnny survives till this day.

Last Night on Earth is game designed for 2-6 players, with one or two players playing the zombies that want to kill the others and the others playing the heroes that are going to stop them. Play in a variety of scenarios on a modular board, and compete to see if the heroes can win the scenario before they become zombie chow. The game is really simple, actually. Roll dice to move, if you see a zombie the heroes roll vs the zombies, trying to take them out. The zombies have cards that they can play against the heroes, while moving the zombies to try to kill the heroes. Other then that, there are some other rules, like searching that takes an action, and the game itself is really simple.

The art is decent. Flying Frog Productions uses live actors for all there stuff, and personal I don't like there artwork for that reason. Zombicide has appealing art because the characters are over the top and drawn. While Flying Frog Productions doesn't need to go that far, I certainly feel they would prevent the uncanny valley if they went the route of drawing rather then photography.

And with that, that's everything I have to say about the Last Night on Earth, except: I think the game is broken. Specifically Johnny.

Johnny has two hitpoints, and the blitz ability: only person in the game that can run into melee and continue moving after battle. Add in chainsaw that gives a natural +4 to attack rolls, and being broken on ones, and bam, the zombies are running from the Johnny. While many good stories were to be had from the legend of the chumpless man, I certainly question his reason within the game, and certainly desire him to not be in the game, or improve some of the others lack-lusters ability, such as the sheriff starting with a gun, which is lame.

Over-all, a fun game, but not the best out there, especially not from Flying Frog Productions, with my personal favorite being Fortune and Glory
