    Rating: 9Reviewed By: Patrick S.09/19/2012
Summary ReviewFast playing, secret information, bluffing and misdirection...this game has a lot going on for the low price point. It also has top quality components and easy to understand rules. We played 3 games within an hour of opening the box! And they were all fun and challenging.
Detailed ReviewQueens Ransom Zman Games 2-5 players 20 mins

This is a fast playing deduction and memory card game. Players take the role of investigators in an attempt to locate the missing Queen and identify the culprit. Gameplay is simple but there are layers to the strategy too. Information is not "perfect", everyone doesnt get the same info at the same time, and things can change in a hurry. With some more plays I am certain that bluffing and misdirection will appear and make it even more fun. Cards in hand are either money, valued 1,2,3 or 4 coins or special action cards.

There are 3 suspects and 3 Locations. Each of the two sets are placed in a row with 1 clue card above it and 1 clue card below it, forming 6 columns. There is also a Jester in the middle of the columns. He has information to sell. The asking price will change each round so sometimes its at a premium cost and other times its more accessable. There are 3 possible actions a turn: Buy information from the Jester, Play a Special card, or Pass. Buying information from the Jester allow you to peak at any of the 12 clue cards. Special actions vary, some allow you to lock cards so no one else can look at them, others allow you to move the clues around and cause confusion and require memory to keep track of whats where, some give extra draws or allow you the get a card from the discard pile and there are several others too. Passing is, well just doing nothing. You also draw a card at the end of your turn. Since cards are actions or money there is some hand management required. Discard pile is shuffled and re-used as needed.

The objective is to locate the "most likely suspect and location". this is set by a value at the bottom of each clue card in a range from -2 to +2. the most likely suspect and location will each have a total value that will vary from -3 to +3. This is the total of the card above and the card below. Knowing the distribution of the cards is important so make sure new players are told that there are,for each "locations" and "suspects": one +2, three +1's one -1 and one -2. Knowing this helps to deduce what cards are and what they cant be (we made a small note card to leave on the table to remind us). If you find a column whose value is +3, its a sure thing that they are the ones your looking for. a value of +2 is sometimes the highest and sometimes not, thats where the deduction comes in. If you make an accusation and you are wrong, you are out of the game, cause the only way to be sure if you are right or wrong is to view all of the clues.

The Cards are top notch quality, the usual Zman small box cards and the same kind found in Coloretto and FFGs silver line card games. The art is simple but it conveys the time period. The instructions are well written and very simple, I was playing 5 minutes after opening the box.

I enjoy this game a lot. Its fast so if you get knocked out its no biggie cause another game will be starting soon. Its also an incredible value at 10 bucks, so even if it doesnt get played 200 times its still worth it. This is also a great game to play with people who dont usually play these kind of games, it wont scare em off with super complex rules or too many options. I will be bringing this to family functions. And The Wife likes it so thats always a plus!
