Call of Cthulhu: Ripples from Carcosa
| Our Price : $21.95 | Out of stock at the moment. . |
Description Few Great Old Ones of the Cthulhu Mythos ensnare the imagination as readily as Hastur. His silent, deserted city of Carcosa rests beside dark, foreboding Lake Hali where sinister things lurk. Many of us have walked the twisting streets of that dead and alien city, finding our way into the tall towers to stand before an ancient throne - where sits the King in Yellow, the Lord of Carcosa, who gazes at us from behind his Pallid Mask.
Artists, poets, dreamers, and madmen feel the hand of the Great Old Ones most sharply - the line between creative genius and abject madness is thin. Hastur is that line where they meet. His play, The King in Yellow, is one of the most popular of all Mythos Tomes. His triskelion Yellow Sign is nearly as recognizable a symbol as is the Elder Sign.
Ripples from Carcosa expands the mythology of "He Who Should Not Be Named" and gathers much of the varied material on Hastur into one place. It first reviews Hastur and his various avatar forms. It examines the Yellow Sign, the play The King in Yellow, the Mythos tome of the same name, and the effects these things have upon the human mind.
Next is a trio of adventures pitting Call of Cthulhu investigators against Hastur and his human worshippers. These scenarios can be played as stand-alone adventures or as a linked campaign called "Ripples from Carcosa."
As each scenario takes place roughly one thousand years apart, one might wonder how they can be played as a linked campaign. Eighteen pre-generated investigators included across the trilogy are reincarnations of the same six sets of consciousness. During their first encounter with Hastur in the Roman Era they are marked and forever tied to the Great Old One throughout eternity. Once every millennium they are drawn together and again forced to confront the horror and madness of He Who Should Not Be Named.
